    Στο πλαίσιο των εορτασμών του 2008 ως Ευρωπαϊκού Έτους Διαπολιτισμικού Διαλόγου, θα πραγματοποιηθεί στην Κέρκυρα στις 27-28 Ιουνίου 2008 το 1ο Συνέδριο Διαπολιτισμικού Διαλόγου Αδριατικής-Ιονίου (1st Adriatic-Ionian Intercultural Dialogue Conference), που συν-διοργανώνεται από το Ευρωπαϊκό Κοινοβούλιο - Γραφεία για την Ελλάδα, Ιταλία, Σλοβενία (χώρα που ασκεί την προεδρία της Ε.Ε) και την Αθήνας, Λιουμπλιάνας και Ρώμης) και τη Μη Κερδοσκοπική Οργάνωση που εδρεύει στην Κέρκυρα: «Φόρουμ της Ευρώπης των Πολιτισμών: Παράρτημα Αδριατικής-Ιονίου - www.eocf-ai.org».

Στόχος του συνεδρίου είναι να φέρει στο ίδιο τραπέζι εκπροσώπους από όλες τις χώρες της Αδριατικής-Ιονίου - τόσο μέλη Ε.Ε όσο και γειτονικές χώρες της ευρύτερης περιοχής, για να συζητήσουν τις προκλήσεις της διαπολιτισμικότητας με την προοπτική της βελτίωσης της πολιτιστικής συνεργασίας και καλύτερης κατανόησης μεταξύ πολιτών της περιοχής. Οι συμμετέχοντες στο συνέδριο θα έχουν την ευκαιρία να ακούσουν και συζητήσουν με Ευρωβουλευτές και αξιωματούχους της Ε.Ε και κυβερνήσεων καθώς και εκπροσώπους της κοινωνίας πολιτών και βιομηχανίας από όλην την Ευρώπη.

Η  κεντρική εισήγηση με θέμα «Σκέψεις πάνω στο διαπολισμικό διάλογο και το μέλλον της Ευρώπης» θα γίνει από προσωπικότητα του χώρου του πολιτισμού από την Ευρώπη και στη συνέχεια οι σύνεδροι θα ασχοληθούν με θέματα όπως ο «Διαπολιτισμικός Διάλογος σε ένα μεταβαλλόμενο ευρωπαϊκό χώρο» και «Διαπολιτισμικός Διάλογος στην Κοινωνία της Γνώσης». Στη συνέχεια θα πραγματοποιηθούν παράλληλα εργαστήρια-συνεδρίες με ειδικά θέματα όπως «Πολιτιστική Συνεργασία στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση και τη γειτονιά της» και «Πολιτιστική Κληρονομιά και Τουρισμός».
Προβλέπονται καλλιτεχνικές εκδηλώσεις και ξενάγηση των συμμετεχόντων στην παλιά πόλη Κέρκυρας – Μνημείο Πολιτιστικής Κληρονομιάς της UNESCO.

Το συνέδριο θα κλείσει με ψήφιση από τους συμμετέχοντες της «Δήλωσης Διαπολιτισμικού Διαλόγου της Κέρκυρας» που θα παρουσιάζει τα αποτελέσματα του συνεδρίου και θα δίνει το στίγμα για την περαιτέρω πορεία πολιτιστικής συνεργασίας στην περιοχή.


Μετά τη λήξη του συνεδρίου θα ακολουθήσουν δορυφορικές εκδηλώσεις όπως: στις 29/6 η 1η Συνάντηση Συντονιστών Πολιτιστικών Αντενών του Φόρουμ Αδριατικής-Ιονίου στη Λευκίμμη. Αναμένεται να εκπροσωπηθούν Πολιτιστικές Αντένες από πολλές πόλεις της Αδριατικής και Ιονίου και β) Διαπολιτισμική Σύναξη  Νεολαίας

Introduction

EU declared 2008 as “Year of intercultural dialogue”, a European Year which, because of its multiplier effect, will develop into a unique instrument for raising awareness of the chosen theme among citizens, particularly young people.

The European Year is expected to:

> Promote intercultural dialogue as an instrument to assist European citizens, and all those living in the European Union, in acquiring the knowledge and aptitudes to enable them to deal with a more open and more complex environment;

> Raise the awareness of European citizens, and all those living in the European Union, of the importance of developing active European citizenship which is open to the world, respectful of cultural diversity and based on common values.

In this context, the Corfu, Greece based non-profit organisation “Europe of Cultures Forum: Adriatic-Ionian Chapter” (EOCF-AI www.eocf-ai.org) and the European Parliament (Offices for Greece, Italy and Slovenia (acting EU presidency) took the initiative co-organise the 1st Adriatic-Ionian Intercultural Dialogue Conference in Corfu, Greece on 27 - 28 June 2008.

The objective of this conference is to bring together representatives from all EU and non-EU Adriatic-Ionian countries as well as neighboring countries in the region to discuss the challenges of inter-culturalism with a view to enhance cultural cooperation and better understanding among  citizens in the region. Conference participants will have the opportunity to listen to from and dialogue with MEP and EU and government officials as well as representatives from civil society and industry from all over Europe. 

The issues of Intercultural Dialogue in a changing European landscape and in the Knowledge Society Age will be discussed in plenary and parallel workshops will try to devise best practices in relation to Cultural Cooperation in EU and its neighborhood and Cultural heritage and Tourism.

At the end of the conference participants will be called to undersign “The Corfu Intercultural Dialogue Declaration”, a document which will contain not only the conclusions of the conference but also views for further action with emphasis in the Adriatic-Ionian region.

  • Conference Location
    The conference will be held in Corfu, Greece, an island famous for its nature and sandy beaches as well as for its civilization (the old town of Corfu – Kerkyra in Greek, is since 2007 in the UNESCO list of World Cultural heritage Monuments). The conference will take place in the new building of the Ionian University in the city centre.
  • Language
    The official languages of the conference are Greek, Italian, English.  Slovenian (EU presidency country) will be used for plenaries and English for parallel workshops.

CAUTION: End of June is a very HIGH SEASON for Corfu,                  so please make your reservations for flights and hotels immediately

Transport

Corfu (Kerkyra) can be reached at the end of June either by direct charter flights from numerous European airports (please get information for your country), by regular flights via Athens (min 4 times daily) and Thessaloniki (min 3-ice weekly), by hydroplanes daily from Patras and other places, and by ferry boats from Italy (Venice, Bari, Brindisi, Ancona) and from mainland Greece (Patras, Igoumenitsa).

Call for Papers and Posters

The 1st Adriatic-Ionian Intercultural Dialogue Conference aims at producing and signing a policy document entitled:  “The Corfu Intercultural Dialogue Declaration”. This document will reflect the concerns of the conference participants regarding intercultural dialogue in the periphery of Europe and peripheral and will attempt to devise patterns for future action in the region.

With a view to shape and enrich its content, the Programme Committee invites  researchers, policy makers, university professors, students, school teachers and graduates as well as as cultural organizations, youth associations and groups, foundations and institutions, museums, theaters etc. to submit by 10 April 2008 at the latest:

>>>> Papers and reflection documents

·         research and policy contributions/ full papers (maximum 2.500 words)

·         short reflections to be included in the Declaration (maximum 1.000 words)

·         theme reports - papers for discussion in workshops

The proposed themes for reflection (non exhaustive list) are inspired from the expectations of 2008, European Year of Intercultural Dialogue i.e.:

• promote intercultural dialogue as an instrument to assist European citizens, and all those living in the European Union, in acquiring the knowledge and aptitudes to enable them to deal with a more open and more complex environment;
• raise the awareness of European citizens, and all those living in the European Union, of the importance of developing active European citizenship which is open to the world, respectful of cultural diversity and based on common values.

Contributions are welcome related to intercultural dialogue and the cultural initiatives and actions at European level  in areas such as cultural cooperation, cultural industries, access to culture, the culture professionals, cultural facilities, linguistic and cultural diversity, international relations with emphasis in the Adriatic-Ionian and South-Eastern Europe and Mediterranean countries.

 

Papers will be reviewed by an International Review Board and selected papers will be included in a special publication of the Forum on Intercultural Dialogue.

 

Procedure and Deadlines for papers (only by email):

  • Submission of abstracts (max 400 words) by 10 April 2008
  • Approval and invitation to submit full paper by 15 April 2008
  • Full paper submission by 15 May 2008
  • Paper approval by 25 May 2008
  • Final paper submission (camera ready copy) by 10 June 2008

Posters - in English language and A3 format, must be related to the European Intercultural Dialogue 2008 theme and present projects or field work and good practices accomplished by different cultural and other organisations in Europe.

Award: An International Committee will evaluate and select a number of posters to be exhibited in the conference venue and published in a special post-conference publication. The Committee will be select one poster to receive the award of the “1st Adriatic-Ionian intercultural Dialogue Conference Poster”.

Deadlines for posters:

  • Draft poster submission by 30 April 2008
  • Paper approval by 15 May 2008
  • Final poster submission (printed version) by 10 June 2008

NB: Posters selected for exhibition need to be presented / defended by their authors/creators in Corfu
